i'm so mad. honestly i wasn't even looking forward to the game because i knew they were going to just mess it up so badly but like how is it worse than i even thought it would be?!?!
don't get me wrong, they did some really great stuff and progressed a lot with things like the realtime battling, and i'm also very impressed with the fashion, but in a lot of ways they just went backwards. honestly more than backwards because even in the oldest games, you could go inside of buildings!!!
i am 100% a giant pokemon fan and i have been since i was very little. i think the first game i was ever introduced to was black/white, because i distincively remember some scenes from the game, and also my favorite pokemon for my whole childhood was snivy (i still love you snives). well anyways, the first game i actually played was pokemon X! so i am just...so passionate about this region because i mean i know it's not the best pokemon game, and i know i'm biased because of nostalgia, but like it's a good freaking game!!! and i know the story with team flare is totally not fleshed out as much as it could have been, but throughout the whole game, it's a really great story with awesome characters! i mean pokemon has always designed good characters, but i also love the story that they add. it's mainly calem and shauna, but their dynamic is awesome, as well as the player's rivalry with calem. i recently watched a little video essay about it and it just made me really appreciate it a lot more than when i was a kid. their story is so sweet and develops well (i still think it would have benefitted from being pushed even farther, but still, i can appreciate a good story even if it's not perfect).
anyways, all of that goes to say that i LOVE kalos and it is mY BABY! so how DARE they decimate it!!! honestly my biggest complaint is that they kept all of it inside of lumiose city?! i have no idea why. i mean it's a cool city, but all of kalos has some really awesome towns and routes that they could have made even better, or even opened up the world a little bit more so you get more lore or whatever i dunno. a full kalos to explore would have just been amazing. i mean it literally takes what, a minute to cross the entirety of lumiose city in z-a? it just became a short, cramped game and you can only stay outside because there's basically nowhere you can explore inside even though it's a freaking city with ONLY BUILDINGS AROUND?!?!! this just bewilders me. also. the windows. the balconies. everyone has spoken about it. it's literally all you see the entire game, and it looks like dogshit. the thing is, i think they only did this to help the render time, because for some freaking reason they decided it would be best if all of lumiose city was being rendered every single second you're playing, no matter where you are. like for example, in a normal, open game, only a certain radius of the place your in is being rendered, then, as you walk onto another area, it stops rendering the other place, and renders the new place. i mean i dunno, maybe it's hard or something, but genuinely there is no reason for the entire game to be completely rendered no matter where you are. no wonder the game looks like shit. we could have had amazing looking buildings if they had just been thinking rationally??
i don't care if you like the game, that's fine, but i'm just done with pokemon giving us fans absolute slop, and charging $70 base and $30 DAY ONE DLC?!?! i have played multiple indie games that are SOOO MUCH BETTER FOR LITERALLY FREE. AND POKEMON MAKES MORE MONEY THAN LIKE DISNEY, MARVEL, DC, UNIVERSAL, LIKE, COMBINED. it's honestly really unexcusible. i could get it if they genuinely didn't have the resources, but no, you can just TELL that they are taking advantage of us super fans because we have a trend of just buying up anything pokemon because we love it. and it has to be fun no matter what because it's pokemon and we love pokemon! but i'm honestly tired of it because i want so much more for pokemon, and i expect a $100 game to be WORTH $100
i will usually not rant about stuff, because this blog is purley for me to talk about my life here, for the most part, but man, i just love pokemon with all my heart and i just want them to do better. that's all i ask. i want them to stop taking advantage of us, and actually make a good game, which they have not done in about a decade. sword and shield was good, i actually really liked it. but it really lacked in story for me, and for a lot of people. they did a really great job on that game though, they could have just pushed it a little bit farther. some of the towns were really lacking, and they still had an issue of not being able to enter a lot of buildings, i also just wish the exploration was a bit better. there's not really a big reason to explore the wild areas, cause it's just grass everywhere, not too much to see unless you're completing the dex
well thank you for listening to my rant! stand up to pokemon! don't let them treat us like this anymore! we adore and consume so much of their products, and yet we just get disrespected in return, when they have the full capability to come up with amazing new ideas for pokemon and figure out how to produce them. and you know, honestly, i would love some more side games. like pokemon ranger vibes. and no side games that are freaking phone games. those are bad. like honestly i thought that pokken tournament was pretty good, not amazing, but still a great idea and it was enjoyable. i would really love more games that maybe focus less on being a trainer and becoming a champion. i want more real-feeling situations! i haven't played pokemon ranger, but i have heard that it fits this critera. i want more stuff like that!
i honestly believe that, with all of the criticism and sales collapsing, they will learn that we care about good games, and they will stop taking us fans for granted. i really believe. i have to, otherwise i don't know what else to do. if pokemon is bad for the rest of my life, it's gonna be really depressing. also i don't care if it's "supposed to be a kids game"?? kids games are awesome and so fun. i play kids games all the time because of nostalgia and i'm also just really bad at playing games and i love cosy games lol. but yeah, even children deserve better. look at what we had growing up??? we literally grew up with classics? don't they deserve the same?
but yeah that was my rant! other than playing pokemon X again because i'm sad about z-a, i haven't been doing much. me and my little brother are working on a game together that we really want to make, but we've both been pretty busy with school, and the time change doesn't help. i'm also not great at coding video games, so i'm still learning, so i can't help him too much with that yet. yesterday i went and got the street fighter borger from mcdonalds! they had SHAKA SHAKA FRIES!!! it was my first time having them and they were really good! i don't remember what the flavor was but you could probably look it up if you're interested lol. after that, we played ping pong (they have a couple tables at the dorms) and i got kinda drunk (i am the best at ping pong when i am drunk) and i felt soo sick this morning so i couldn't go to class. very very stupid on my part, don't freaking drink on a thursday night guys. welp, i had fun anyways. i love hanging out with my friends here, they're so great!
here's a lil photo dump, but yeah, i really haven't done much since i last posted. the doodle is for the game me and my bro are working on (it's just alice in wonderland cause i wanted to focus more on actually finishing a game with cool mechanics and then someday we can make something with our own story) the pokemon pic is from pokemon x while i was playing the puzzle game in pokemon amie, and right as i finished the puzzle, magnemite jumps out and his body is exactly where amaura's head is. it's hilarious. and then the last is my street fighter meal! forgot to take a pic of shaka shaka fries but oh well. i love the themed packaging, so cool.
